Raising twins is not an easy task. Having two babies who need to be fed at the same time can definitely be overwhelming for any parent. Although, it is an amazing feeling to have two kids around the house who develop a bond like no other and become each other’s best friends, but the initial few years are pretty taxing for the parents.

Twins may be of the same gender or different and they may be monozygotic or dizygotic. When a single zygote (fertilized egg) splits to form two embryos, it is monozygotic and leads to Identical twins. In the case when two eggs get fertilized by different sperms, two separate zygotes are formed and it is dizygotic. This leads to Fraternal Twins. Identical twins are of the same gender and resemble each other a lot. Fraternal twins, however, can be of different genders and do not resemble each other as much.

Many of our Bollywood celebs have also experienced the joy of becoming parents to twin babies. Let’s take a look at them here:

#1. Sanjay Dutt & Manyata Dutt

Sanju Baba, as he is lovingly called in Bollywood, got married to former actress Manyata Dutt in the year 2008 and they were blessed with twin babies in the year 2010. They have a boy named Shahraan and a girl named Iqra. In spite of his busy work schedule, Sanjay takes out time to be with his children and has a great rapport with his kids. In fact, he attends all their parent-teacher meetings and school functions.

#2. Celina Jaitley and Peter Haag

Married to Australian hotelier Peter Haag, former Miss India Universe Celina Jaitley’s happiness knew no bounds when she was blessed with twin boys in March 2012. The couple named them Winston and Viraaj respectively. They had been doing a great job taking care of their boys and quite recently Celina conceived and delivered twins again in 2017, but sadly one of them had CHD – congenital heart disease and passed away.

#3. Karan Johar

Ace Bollywood Filmmaker Karan Johar took the entire country by surprise when he became a father to a lovely set of twins – a girl and a boy in 2017 through surrogacy. The multifaceted superstar who is a director, actor, producer, costume designer and screenwriter had expressed his desire to experience fatherhood on more than one occasion but had not revealed anything yet. The babies were born prematurely in February this year and had to be kept in the neonatal ICU for some time. Karan has named them after his father and mother as Yash and Roohi.

#4. Kashmira Shah and Krushna Abhishek

Famous comedian Krushna Abhishek and actress Kashmira Shah who got married in a private affair in 2013 are now proud parents to a set of twin boys. The babies were born through surrogacy and were in the neonatal ICU for some time. Both the kiddos are doing well now and are happy and active toddlers.

#5. Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan

Another actors couple, mostly popular on television, welcomed their twins to the world on in November, 2009. They have a daughter named Katya and a son named Nevaan. Hiten and Gauri had met on the set of the TV show Kutumb and got married in 2004. They have been starring together in several other TV series.

#6. Karanvir Bohra and Teejay Sidhu

Karanvir Bohra is an actor, director assistant and producer. He’s also a designer who owns a menswear clothing line named Pegasus. Karanvir has been married to model and VJ Teejay Sidhu since 2006. They were blessed with twin girls Vienna and Raya in 2012.

#7. Saurabh Raj Jain and Riddhima

Sourabh Raj Jain is a very famous television actor, known for his roles in Om Namo Venkatesaya, Mahabharat and Uttarana. Married to Riddhima, the couple was blessed with twins, boy and girl last year.

An interesting fact about conceiving twins is that older women tend to have increased chances of getting pregnant with twin babies.
